When Stella Fosse awoke on her sixtieth birthday, she was surprised that nothing had changed. She had crossed the line from Princess to Crone—but contrary to stereotypes she swam four times a week, had lovers and a thriving career. Why had no one told her that life after sixty could be this good?
After she left her career behind, life got even better. She wrote and published a book a year, started a forum where older women authors share marketing ideas for their books, and set up a website to showcase the vibrant culture of older women.
Then she showed up at NAMW to talk about the joy of creativity after midlife. During our July Virtual Book Club, Stella will discuss how:
- Creativity in later life frees us from stereotypes.
- It’s super liberating to decide your first draft will be crap.
- Every time we reflect on a memory, it’s re-stored slightly differently in our brains. That’s the biology of wisdom.
- Writing, like sex, is grown-up play. Both are worth celebrating.
- We can and will support each other on our authorship journeys.
Bio
Stella Fosse is a seventy-something author who writes sexy stories as a creative antidote to the gendered ageism older women face in society.
