About NAMW

At the National Association of Memoir Writers, we believe everyone has a powerful story to tell. Writing a memoir helps you claim your voice, make sense of your past, and share your truth in a way that connects with others.

You may be asking:
What legacy am I leaving behind?
What wisdom do I have to share?
Why does my story matter?

Memoir writing is a journey of discovery, reflection, and craft. It’s about finding meaning in your memories, confronting complex family stories, and shaping raw experience into compelling narrative. Whether you’re writing for publication, for family, or for healing, we’re here to guide and support you.

Our Mission

Since 2008, NAMW has helped thousands of writers develop their stories—from first spark to finished manuscript. Whether you’re just beginning or well into your memoir journey, we offer tools, inspiration, and community.

What We Offer

  • Monthly Member Events with industry experts
  • A growing audio library of 40+ interviews and classes
  • Free resources including eBooks, articles, and a monthly newsletter
  • Discounts on select workshops, retreats, and writing tools
  • Craft and publishing support through teleseminars and online classes
  • Community connections via our active Facebook groups

We also explore how memoir can be a path to transformation. Our workshops and articles dive into topics like therapeutic writing, spiritual autobiography, and personal healing.

And because good storytelling matters, we emphasize the craft—scene, structure, voice, language—plus insight into the publishing world, whether you’re pursuing traditional routes or self-publishing.

A Memoir is a Bridge

Memoir is one of the most vibrant ways to connect with others—and yourself. Through story, you offer witness, testimony, and truth. You make meaning from life.

At NAMW, we’re honored to walk that path with you.
