The Story
I Need to Tell You is a transformational story of resilience and healing. In 1968 at eighteen, Cathryn was unmarried and pregnant at a time when girls like her were sent away. The pregnancy was kept secret and the baby was taken for adoption, a decision which shaped the rest of her life. Unknowingly, she allowed this choice to define her value as a woman, a wife, and a mother. In every relationship, in every hobby, she searched for something or someone to soothe the constant ache she carried.
Writing the book
My route to publishing was a circuitous one. It was as if an unseen power led me through my healing process. It began with discovering I had PTSD and working through the trauma with a therapist.
I landed in Jennifer Lauck’s intro to writing, Bones of Storytelling and learned about becoming vulnerable in the process of writing my raw truth.
What NAMW members will learn from this presentation—
- Unexpected outcomes from publishing my story
- Mistakes I made as a debut author
- Book publishing is a business not a club
- How an unknown author finds readers when bookstores decline
Bio—
Cathryn began writing after retiring from forty-five years in nursing – (-as a wound specialist). She strives to overcome the persistent imposter syndrome that plagues many new authors. Her work has been published in The Linden Review, GrandeDame Lit, Girltalkhq and others.
Originally from Pittsburgh PA, she currently lives in Oregon on six acres of fenced property with her husband and three happy terriers. As a mother who raised two daughters, she is Nana to five stupendous grandchildren. Her favorite authors are Amor Towles and Elizabeth Strout, but her most appreciated book is All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr.
