Not all writers come to the blank page knowing exactly what to write. In my case, I had no clue, but I did have stories I couldn’t leave alone. I knew they must be shared. What genre was I going to choose? Biography? Fiction? Memoir? In my journey of taking one writing class after another, I found my answers.

How about you? How do you find the direction you want to take in your writing?

We’ll be talking about these topics, and more in our discussion.

  • How did I decide to turn a biography into fiction?
  • Was my own memoir imbedded in the story?
  • What is it like to write historical fiction?
  • What is it like to mix genres by writing a series of memoirs in the form of a culinary/travel series?
  • What was the draw of food in all my books?

All these questions and more will be answered in conversation with Linda Joy Myers and me during her NAMW teleseminar.

Carole Bumpus published her historical novel, A Cup of Redemption (2014) and Recipes for Redemption: A Companion Cookbook to A Cup of Redemption (2015). She is presently finishing up her sixth book about three treks through Provençe. To be published Fall 2024. www.carolebumpus.com
