You’ve heard that you need to grow your email list so you can sell your book when it launches, but how do you even start? This second course in our publishing series guides you step-by-step through a process that really works. We think you’ll even have fun with it… really!

The good news is that today’s technology companies make it very easy. The bad news is that they’re all competing for your attention, and it’s difficult to figure out which products and services are best, how much they cost, and how geeky you have to be to make them work.

It’s true that the number one way to reach readers and influencers is by email, and that growing your list is one of the best things you can do to market your book.

In our 3 Easy Ways to Grow our Email List course you’ll learn how to use free tools to get you started.

You’ll find out how to:

  • Survey your readers to figure out what they’re most interested in learning from you.
  • Create a free giveaway, called a freebie (which is also called a lead magnet), that will attract readers and influencers to subscribe to your email list.
  • Build a single email subscription page, called a lead page or landing page, that encourages visitors to trade their email address for the freebie you created.

Start building your email list now, even if it’s several months, a year, or several years before you publish… the earlier the better. If you have an author website you love, awesome! It’s easy for you (or your website helper) to integrate. If you have a website you don’t love, you can bypass it, directing subscribers to the single signup page. If you don’t have a website, don’t worry at all. You don’t need one.

Building your email list is the single most important thing you can do, besides writing a great book, to make sure it gets read.

So please join us for this 90-minute workshop and receive forever access to the Build Your Platform online course.

“After spending months researching the self-publishing process, and spending thousands of dollars, there were still so many unknowns and I needed help. I reached out to Carla, who guided me in a new direction. It’s not just her expertise in the industry, she is genuinely rooting for you and your success, and she reinvigorated me and boosted my confidence. Her guidance has been invaluable. I wish I’d known about her before I started this crazy journey.”

— Kathy Tong, Not-Quite-Supermodel

“Carla has always been one of the most generous and supportive mentors in the community. I’m always blown away by how much useful, real world information she provides. I self-published two books based almost solely on her incredibly helpful advice. She gave me the tools and confidence I needed to make my dream a reality.”

— Michelle Lamphere: The Butterfly Route, A Memoir

“Ever since first meeting Carla King at the Santa Barbara Writers Conference many years ago, I’ve been blown away by not only her personal life adventures, but her renaissance-like mastery of so many different areas. She’s a prolific writer, incredible marketer, inspiring presenter, teacher, and has a staggering grasp of multiple technologies that are necessary these days to be a successful writer in a rapidly changing world. She’s a remarkable teacher, able to lead groups while also giving her students a voice and a chance for democratic input. There is truly never a shortage of things to learn from her.”

— Rachel Sara Thurston, Multimedia Storyteller

“Carla has an infectious, bright personality and generous willingness to help others work their way through the jungle of self-publishing. It was her first self-publishing guide and her enthusiasm that encouraged me to successfully publish four books.”

— Tamara Merrill, The Augustus Family Trilogy, Konstellation Press

90 minutes on Zoom – 60 minutes and 30 minutes Q&A
$99 / $79 for NAMW Members

VALUABLE BONUSES include Carla’s Distribute Your Book online course, a $49 value.

Learn about the services that will get your ebook, print book, and audiobook out into the world. This course will prepare you for the formatting and design work you need to do to ready your book for distribution. It will get you thinking about book marketing strategies on launch day, taking advantage of the marketing programs some of the online retailers provide. For example, you’ll learn why so many authors use the exclusive Amazon KDP Select program to sell their ebook instead of “going wide” to all the ebook stores. You’ll learn about metadata, and exactly how many words and characters you are allowed to use in your book description and author bio. Book categories and keywords? BISAC codes? We’ll go there, too!

Feb 8, 2021 (Replay available)

Many authors believe that publishing your book independently is simply about getting your book designed, formatted, and uploaded to stores, so it’s no wonder the average self-published book sells only 200 copies. You can do better by following a proven process to find your community of readers and peers, to get your book into as many hands as possible, to build a platform, and to follow a launch plan.

Jan 25, 2021 (Replay available)

Carla King and I want to help you become a successful author. In our NAMW coaching calls and teleseminars over the last few years, I’ve noticed that there is a great deal of confusion and many questions about how to get your memoir published. Many of you have noticed that it’s nearly impossible through the traditional means—especially now that there are only three major publishing houses. That means you must find your way through the maze of self-publishing options—or is it “indie” or hybrid? Yes, there are so many questions, and we will answer them.

On this FREE call we’re going to address many of the major questions about how to decide what path you want to take. We understand that the process feels overwhelming and is fraught with potential landmines, and it’s hard to know where to start.
