On this FREE Zoom event about publishing, we’re going to answer your questions about how to decide what publishing path you want to take for your book. We understand that the process feels overwhelming and is fraught with potential landmines, and it’s hard to know where to start.
This free call will also help us address your questions in detail about the October 21 workshop: Everything You Want to Know About Publishing but have been Afraid to Ask.
Carla King and I want to help you become a successful author. In our NAMW coaching calls and discussions over the last few years, I’ve noticed that there is a great deal of confusion about how to publish your memoir —and that many of you are unfamiliar with all the steps to take to help you successfully get your memoir into the world.
Many of you comment that it’s a challenge to publish through the traditional-agented means—especially now that there are only four major publishing houses.
That means you must find your way through the maze of self-publishing options—is the correct name “indie” or “hybrid” or “self-publishing?” There are so many questions, and we look forward to discussing them with you.
We understand that the process feels overwhelming and is fraught with potential landmines. So in this course, you’ll come away with the knowledge you need to choose a path.
- Which path is best for your goals: traditional-agented, hybrid, or self-publishing.
- How long it takes to publish in each path..
- The costs—what you need to do yourself and what you can hire out.
- Some pieces of the publishing journey—no matter how you publish—are the same. So you can start taking action now.
We are bringing this course back by popular demand—people asked for it again after the first series earlier in the year. We’re offering a new series of live Zoom workshops, roadmaps, handouts, charts, and a logical plan to help you get started on publishing your book and becoming invested in making the best choice for your project.
Carla and Linda Joy have been involved in getting their books published, all the way back to previous eras when there were fewer choices.

Many authors believe that publishing your book independently is simply about getting your book designed, formatted, and uploaded to stores, so it’s no wonder the average self-published book sells only 200 copies. You can do better by following a proven process to find your community of readers and peers, to get your book into as many hands as possible, to build a platform, and to follow a launch plan.

Book Marketing Basics: How to Think About It and How to Do It and Stay Sane
Coming soon!
VALUABLE BONUSES include Carla’s Distribute Your Book online course, a $49 value.
Learn about the services that will get your ebook, print book, and audiobook out into the world. This course will prepare you for the formatting and design work you need to do to ready your book for distribution. It will get you thinking about book marketing strategies on launch day, taking advantage of the marketing programs some of the online retailers provide. For example, you’ll learn why so many authors use the exclusive Amazon KDP Select program to sell their ebook instead of “going wide” to all the ebook stores. You’ll learn about metadata, and exactly how many words and characters you are allowed to use in your book description and author bio. Book categories and keywords? BISAC codes? We’ll go there, too!

Linda Joy, I’m looking forward to the first of these workshops, but wondered if you have any idea how many you will have over time. Budgeting for my “learning” expenses in 2021 and it would be nice to know the total number of classes.
Sherry just asked a great question. I know that because it’s my question too! She may have beat me to the punch asking the question but I write gooder than her. Ha!
What publishing and promotion strategies get best results with Jewish americans?
I missed the first workshop. If I sign up for the second workshop will I get access to the first one?
In progress of publishing and am feeling overwhelmed. Not fully understanding the process, terminology and time this takes. Perhaps some anxiety as well recognizing its soon “show time” and now the marketing begins. Putting it all out there is one of the most challenging, scariest things I’ve ever done.
