Brooke Warner
Write On, Sisters!
September 20, 2019
11 AM PDT  |  12 PM MDT |   1 PM CDT  |   2 PM EDT

I am so pleased to feature Brooke Warner for our September NAMW Member Teleseminar. Many of you know Brooke from other programs at NAMW, and she’s one of my primary collaborators—we teach the Write Your Memoir in Six Months intensive, and we’ve taught the New York Times bestseller series and craft workshops. In the work Brooke and I do with memoirists, the focus is on authenticity and excavating truth and uncovering the story you’re meant to tell.

In Brooke’s new book, Write On, Sisters!, she champions women to tell their truth and explores how women’s  conditioning—historical, social, economic, and psychological—oftentimes gets in the way of their being able to do that effectively, or all the way. This new book is about why women’s voice and speaking up and out is so important, especially in the current political climate. Brooke has been championing women authors for the past 15 years, and Write On, Sisters! is the culmination of that work, a rallying cry for women writers everywhere to write, publish, and amplify.

Participants will learn:

  • How the short history of women’s publishing successes impacts where women writers find themselves today
  • What some of the barriers are that women writers face that are unique to women writers
  • How we can push back against some of the cultural messages and write the book you must write
  • How to grapple with negative feedback and rejection
  • Why it’s so important to champion women writers/authors
  • How writers can and do thrive in community.

Brooke Warner is publisher of She Writes Press and SparkPress, president of Warner Coaching Inc., and author of Write On, Sisters!, Green-light Your Book, What’s Your Book?, and three books on memoir. Brooke is a TEDx speaker, weekly podcaster (Write-minded with co-host Grant Faulkner of NaNoWriMo), and the former Executive Editor of Seal Press. She currently sits on the boards of the Independent Book Publishers Association, the Bay Area Book Festival, and the National Association of Memoir Writers.  She writes a monthly column for Publishers Weekly.
