If you’re not traditionally published you’ve probably published with a service like IngramSpark, Amazon, BookBaby, Smashwords and the like. But don’t stop there! You can also publish on various non-exclusive, innovative, alternative platforms that are free for you to use and experiment with. These services not only allow you to publish and sell your book, but they give you the email addresses of your audience so that you can communicate with them directly. Profits from sales are much higher because they’re direct, and sliding-scale or pay-what-you-want pricing encourage generosity. Learn how to reach, identify, expand, and sell to your audience using these tools and services:
How to make money with your book-in-progress by writing or blogging using LeanPub, a hybrid pre-order/crowdfunding platform. How use Gumroad, a platform built for writers, artists, and software developers to sell digital and physical copies of your books, music, software, or audio-recordings, plus products like t-shirts, pens, and notebooks. How to use analytical tools like Bitly and Google Analytics to figure out what your audience reads, and doesn’t read, so you can keep them engaged and spreading the word about you and your books on social media platforms.
