Join NAMW as Hyla Discusses Making Meaning with Memoir While Using the Latest Social Media Networking Tools
Widowed at 29, during her second pregnancy, Hyla Molander knew she had to make meaning out of her tragedy. Shortly after beginning her memoir, she began efforts to find a literary agent. As part of this process, Hyla turned to the writing community at http://www.Scribd.com and in a few short months, had over 33,000 reads. And through it all, she has learned how memoir can bring meaning to life’s difficulties. Learn directly from Hyla how writing her memoir has helped her and what building a following on Scribd and other social and writing networking sites has meant for her literary and life journey.

About Hyla Molander
Widowed at 29, during her second pregnancy, Hyla Molander knew she had to make meaning out of her tragedy. She now does this through speaking engagements, writing for blogs and magazines, moderating a widowed forum on Facebook, and embracing each moment with her new husband and four young children in the San Francisco Bay Area.
After receiving a B.A. in Creative Writing from FSU, Hyla started her photography business. Her combined words and images soon attained worldwide distribution in her “Wise Little Souls” line of cards and posters, sending the message that our children are both our students and our teachers. Through her most recently released photo book, Finding Light, she hopes others will be reminded to seek the light in their darkest times.
You can find Hyla’s writing in The Good Men Project Magazine, Writing Mamas, Life360, Scribd, Marin Magazine, and her own popular Drop Dead Life blog.
Currently, she is working on her forthcoming memoir, Drop Dead Life: A Pregnant Widow’s Heartfelt and Often Comic Journey through Death, Birth, and Rebirth. Due to the overwhelming response Hyla encountered when she uploaded the first chapter of Drop Dead Life on Scribd.com—7000 reads in one week—Hyla encourages all writers to keep their eyes wide open to the changes in the publishing industry.
