In the journey of life, we undergo many significant changes. We grow up, find and lose relationships, suffer health or financial traumas. Afterwards we look back and may feel bewildered, knowing a lot happened but not sure how to explain it.
In this three session workshop, Jerry Waxler will offer a model to help you shape your great transitions into stories, using a concept called “The Hero’s Journey.” The method can help you turn past upheavals into interesting journeys in your memoir, and even offers tools to help you construct a story around the changes you are going through today.
Session 1: Introduction to the relationship between major transitions in your life and the mythological structure of the Hero’s Journey. Discover your major transitions. Describe your world before the transition, and your entry into a new aspect of your life.
Session 2 : More about why the Hero’s Journey template. Review the Hero’s Journey as it relates to you. Press forward to the middle of the journey, obstacles, allies, cunning, patience.
Session 3: Completing the journey. Going through the “dark night of the soul” and “coming home.” How to use these elements of your journey to create a compelling story.
